Wonder which history book you studied or from where you learnt that piece of information?!
Just because Buddha got enlightened & died in India doesn't make him an Indian. Plus he was a Prince of a Sakya tribe of Nepal.
Seems you aren't also aware of the fact that the word"Chinky" is considered offensive , it's akin to using the "N"word to refer to people of African race.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17078386375372716857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7304792190086448127.post-34788129285635937242013-11-24T15:54:13.867-08:002013-11-24T15:54:13.867-08:00Please don't use the word "Chinky". ...Please don't use the word "Chinky".
It is offensive.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7304792190086448127.post-30198593859995100082013-08-01T10:28:04.875-07:002013-08-01T10:28:04.875-07:00i like your blog. the western bud. know that tibet...i like your blog. the western bud. know that tibetans have diferent names and chge names in one life time.
chodon maria da conceição :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7304792190086448127.post-6550043081707765862013-02-28T13:18:54.196-08:002013-02-28T13:18:54.196-08:00Hi there

The name means something like "pale earth" because the soil in that region has that colour. A similar place name in Eastern Tibet is Markham ("red Kham") where the soil is reddish. Place names are traditionally not used as first names. Sometimes they are used as a kind of family name or a specifier. E. g. : Sakya Tenzin ("Tenzin from Sakya") as opposed to Markham Tenzin ("Tenzin from Markham"). Technically a Tibetan place name has no gender. But names with -a endings often sound "feminine" in English. Hope this helps you to make a decision.

Cheers
Mountain PhoenixMountain Phoenixhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01726933027905675503noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7304792190086448127.post-13238871152872131772013-02-27T22:46:45.352-08:002013-02-27T22:46:45.352-08:00Hi Mountain Phoenix,

&qu...Dear MP,

I so much agree with what you said,

"For one, ignore the line “Tibetans usually only go by one name” which you often see in Western media reports. Whoever put that bee into the bonnet didn’t have a clue."

I also have found this totally puzzling and wish they would stop. I get the idea their editors are insisting that they give "full names" for people, and if they see only one unit, like Yudron, they think it's only one name element, which perhaps it is, but perhaps it's also two! I do really wish they would stop it. You know anyone we can talk to about it? Someone who could turn the tide of the nonsense about Tibetan names? As you so nicely explain, different cultures have different naming practices. Last names (family, clan, occupation names) used to always come first in Asia (starting in Hungary). Some Asians move west and switch the order around. Then they wonder when people get confused! Euro naming practices that seem routine today aren't all that old, either. It's all about bureaucracy and administration. That being the case, why should we cooperate? Is there a universal rule about how many names a person gets? There never was and never should be! And if there is, ignore it! That will make it go away. Seriously! Ha ha ha...

Yours sincerely,
DDanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10453904366382251766noreply@blogger.com
